Mary Bard Jensen,

I'm Gregor,

dear Betty MacDonald Fan Club fans,

Mary Bard Jensen adored Monica Sone. The Betty MacDonald Fan Club story with Mary Bard Jensen's thoughts of Nisei Daughter is very touching.

Happy birthday, Monica Sone. I'm one of the many fans who would like to read many more books written by wonderful Monica Sone.

Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honor member and author Gwen Grant sent this message to Monica Sone, Wolfgang Hampel and Betty MacDonald Fan Club

Dear Wolfgang,

I can't thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to write to Kimi.

Lucky day for me when you came along, Wolfgang!

Gwen

Dear Ms. Sone,

This is not to bother you or to require an answer but simply to pay homage to you and to thank you for the years of pleasure you have given me knowing you as Kimi.

Betty called you 'gentle, intelligent, considerate, witty and beautiful,' in her book and everything you said and did supported that summing up.
You were a great inspiration to me with your sweet and gentle behaviour and, of course, your dry and very funny wit. I'm sure many, many others found you so, as well.

I understand it is your birthday and hope very much that you have a lovely day.

Writing to you is something I would never have dreamt could happen so I am very grateful to you for allowing me to send this and for giving me the opportunity to once again thank you for being the Kimi I loved and still love so much.

Gwen Grant

Nena, I hope we can read your Betty MacDonald Fan Club story about Betty MacDonald's second husband Don MacDonald in one of the next Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletters.
Wolfgang Hampel's fascinating and witty Betty MacDonald interviews include many memories of Donald Chauncey MacDonald and I wished to have more information. Thank you so much for doing this!

Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald biography include very important details and facts of her life and work. I admire Betty MacDonald's books The Egg and I, The Plague and I, Anybody can do anything, Onions in the Stew, but also Nancy and Plum and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories. Which is my favourite book? It's impossible to answer this question.
I love all of them.
Therefore I enjoy Betty MacDonald biography very much. It's an excellent opportunity to learn so much more of Betty MacDonald's life in Carmel and Carmel Valley. I'd love to go there to see all this and perhaps to meet wonderful Doris Day. Did Betty MacDonald and Doris Day know each other?

I admire Wolfgang Hampel's brilliant stories and poems. I can't wait to read new ones in Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter. A Wolfgang Hampel CD and DVD should be available soon. Betty MacDonald would love Wolfgang Hampel's poems and stories as much as we do.

Take care,

Gregor

Mary Bard, Donald MacDonald

Hi this is Nena,

As Wolfgang Hampel mentioned it's very sad that Monica Sone is a one book-author.
I'd love to read more Monica Sone books because her writing is excellent.
Nisei Daughter is so very touching.
Something comes in my mind. Can you remember what Betty MacDonald's sister Mary Bard Jensen said about one book authors in Betty MacDonald's Anybody can do anything?

Speaking of special birthday anniversaries, what about Betty MacDonald's husband Donald MacDonald?
Donald Chauncey MacDonald was born Sept. 2, 1910, in Council Bluffs, Iowa 100 years ago. He died in 1975 at the age of only 65 in Monterey.

I'm working on a story about Donald Chauncey MacDonald with many facts, information and photos for Betty MacDonald Newsletter.

In Wolfgang Hampel's wonderful Betty MacDonald interviews Betty MacDonald's beloved sister Alison Bard Burnett and many other relatives and friends tell the most interesting memories of Donald Chauncey MacDonald. I hope these interviews will be published soon.

Wolfgang Hampel's new Betty MacDonald documentary of Betty MacDonald's life in Boulder,
Butte, Seattle, Laurelhurst, Chimacum, Vashon Island, Carmel and Carmel Valley is really fascinating. My personal favourites are scenes of Betty's and Don's life in Carmel and Carmel Valley.

I hope that Betty MacDonald's filmed interview will be available soon. Where are the Mike Gordons, Bill Gates and Dagobert Ducks? Help us, please.

Wolfgang Hampel's satirical poems and stories are delightful and so very witty. It's a very good idea to offer a special CD and DVD of Wolfgang Hampel's work.

I've read Gwen Grant's PRIVATE! KEEP OUT. A very funny book!
Gwen Grant is a wonderful writer.

I adore Darsie Beck's beautifully written childhood memories of Vashon Island.
Therefore I'm also very interested in reading Darsie Beck's book. I'd appreciate some more info about Darsie Beck's book and artwork.

As I love Betty MacDonald's Nancy and Plum and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle they will be the subject of one of my next stories for Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter.

Everybody is talking about next Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honory member. I only know it's a famous artist and writer and President of a worldfamous Society. Who is it? I can't wait any longer.

Bye for now and enjoy your weekend!

Nena

Mary Bard Jensen, Monica Sone

I'm Margit,

Dear Mary Bard Jensen, Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club Fans,

Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Member and Mary Bard Jensen's and Betty MacDonald's good friend Monica Sone celebrates her 91th birthday today.
Monica Sone is the author of Nisei Daughter. Monica Sone and her family had run a hotel in Seattle before Executive Order 9066 sent all West Coast Japanese Americans into exile.

http://www.washington.edu/uwpress/search/books/SONNIS.html

With charm, humor, and deep understanding, a Japanese American woman tells how it was to grow up on Seattle's waterfront in the 1930s and to be subjected to "relocation" dring World War II. Along with some 120,000 other persons of Japanese ancestry-77,000 of whom were U.S. citizens-she and her family were uprooted from their home and imprisoned in a camp. In this book, first published in 1953, she provides a unique personal account of these experiences.

"Monica Sone's account of life in the relocation camps is both fair and unsparing. It is also deeply touching, and occasionally hilarious."-New York Herald Tribune

"The deepest impression that this unaffected, honest little story made on me was of smiling courage."-San Francisco Chronicle

Wolfgang Hampel, Monica Sone's friend, author of Betty MacDonald biography, winner of first Betty MacDonald Memorial Award sent his very special birthday wishes:

Copyright 2010 by Wolfgang Hampel

Dearest Monica,

we are so very happy to hear that you are well again and wish you a wonderful birthday today. A Million Times good health and all the best!

I was rereading your book Nisei Daughter and I have to tell you that I agree with your many international fans. I wished I could read many more books written by great author and unique personality Monica Sone.

I also agree with the New York Herald Tribune review of Nisei Daughter: Monica Sone's account of life in the relocation camps is both fair and unsparing. It is also deeply touching, and occasionally hilarious.

Yes, that's it! Deeply touching, also occassionally hilarious! When I'm reading your great book ( Nisei Daughter belong to the VERY few books I'm reading over and over again ) I'm really deeply touched. I'm with you and your great family. I adore your outstanding book and even much more I adore your unique personality. You are a genius but very human and warm with a deep understanding and a golden heart.

The first time I heard your very warm voice I was lost. To me it's the most beautiful voice in the whole world. Voice and personality fit together in just a perfect way.

2010 was a very successful year for Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club.

Linde Lund and her Betty MacDonald Fan Club Event Team organized the Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club Royal Wedding Event in Stockholm with many Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald fans from five continents.

They saw the swedish royal wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling.
Victoria is the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and belongs to the Royal House of Bernadotte. Born as a Princess of Sweden, she was designated Crown Princess in 1979 ahead of her younger brother.

Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club sent a wedding present, books written by unique Monica Sone, Betty MacDonald and some Betty MacDonald Interviews by me, Wolfgang Hampel.
When I heard it I was very amazed. What do you think about this, dear Monica?
I hope Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling will enjoy it very much.

Thanks A Million for your friendship.

Although we are far away you and your family are always in our thoughts.

Many hugs and greetings especially from Master Peter to great Lady Monica.

Darling Peter said to me: Monica seems to get younger and younger and you are getting older and older. Before you look like an ooooolllllddd Wolf and act like a grandpa you should better ask Monica, what her secret is. Perhaps she might be able to help you. So Monica help me please, will you? It's really urgent. I'm awaiting your instructions.

We have a Royal Wedding Weather today with lots of sunshine. The sky is so blue and there are no clouds in the sky.

We wish you'll have the same 'Queensweather' and the most wonderful birthday ever.

All our love

Wolfgang, Angelika and Peter -
your old Wolf and your many fans worldwide

Clyde Reynolds Jensen, Wolfgang Hampel

I'm Jens,

Anita, good luck with your Betty MacDonald Fan Club story about Betty MacDonald, Robert Heskett, Donald MacDonald, Darsie Bard, Sydney Bard, Gammy, Mary Bard Jensen, Clyde Jensen, Sydney Cleveland Bard, Mary Alice Bard, Dorothea DeDe Goldsmith, Madge Baldwin, Don Woodfin, Perry Woodfin, Mike Gordon, Ma and Pa Kettle, Nancy and Plum, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and others.

Let's talk about Mary Bard Jensen and her very kind and patient husband, Dr. Clyde Reynolds Jensen.
Some relatives of mine visited Seattle and met Dr. Clyde Jensen. It was many years after Mary Bard Jensen passed away. Clyde Reynolds Jensen valued Mary Bard's work very much and knew so many details. They had the same good marriage like Sydney and Darsie Bard. Dr. Clyde Reynolds Jensen's nickname was Jens. It's my surname. Funny!

Cornelia, listen to me, please. You wrote:

Dr. Clyde Reynolds Jensen answered my mother's millions of questions in a very friendly and detailed way. I'm not sure at all I would have done this because mother wanted to know everything. Mother is darling but can nerve sometimes. Dr. Clyde Reynolds Jensen shared very important info of Boulder, Butte, Seattle, Laurelhurst, Chimacum, Carmel, Carmel Valley, Vashon Island and Firland Sanatorium.

It was the same with my relatives. They wrote everything down Dr. Clyde Reynolds Jensen told them. I'll share it on Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter. I'll have to ask my relatives because I remember there was even a tape with Clyde Reynolds Jensen's recorded voice.

I adore Alison Bard Burnett's goldies in Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald Interviews.
You can compare unique Alison Bard Burnett with her famous sister Betty MacDonald, although she never wrote a book of her own.

Thank you so much, dear Linde Lund. We can be very grateful that Linde Lund heard of Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald Interviews. Linde had the fascinating idea to share them with Betty MacDonald Fans from all over the world. Linde, you are great!

Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald and Ma and Pa Kettle biography and Betty MacDonald interviews have fans in 26 countries. I bet there will be many more fans in the future.
Isn' t this amazing? Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett are born humorists. Both delight their fans from all over the world. I'd love to have a Wolfgang Hampel CD and DVD with his very funny poems and stories. What about a book? We adore Wolfgang Hampel's high humor and wit in Betty MacDonald and Ma and Pa Kettle biography and his wonderful Betty MacDonald interviews.

Morten, I agree. We have to find somebody like Mike Gordon, Bill Gates or Dagobert Duck who might be interested in purchasing Betty MacDonald's filmed interview.
Did you already ask your cousin? I'd die to see Betty MacDonald's filmed interview in colour.
I wished I'd be wealthy and prrrrominent. I'd buy Betty MacDonald's filmed interview in a minute.

Nice weekend.

Jens

Mary Bard Jensen, Alison Bard Burnett

I'm Morten,

We can't stop laughing while listening to Alison Bard Burnett's memories about her outstanding sister Mary Bard Jensen.

Anita, I know we'll enjoy your Betty MacDonald Fan Club Story about Betty MacDonald, Robert Eugene Heskett, Donald Chauncey MacDonald, Darsie Bard, Sydney Bard, Gammy, Mary Bard Jensen, Clyde Reynolds Jensen, Sydney Cleveland Bard, Mary Alice Bard, Dorothea DeDe Goldsmith, Madge Baldwin, Don Woodfin, Perry Woodfin, Mike Gordon, Ma and Pa Kettle, Nancy and Plum, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and others.

Sandrine, Anita, Anja and Betty MacDonald Fan Club Fans, when we listen to Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald interviews we are laughing all the time. The same happens while reading Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald and Ma and Pa Kettle biography and his very funny poems and stories.
It's wonderful that there will be a new Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett CD and DVD. Alison Bard Burnett and Wolfgang Hampel share their golden laughter.
Anja, you mentioned one of your friends nearly fell off the chair while listening to them.
My aunt fell off the chair! It's not a joke. Auntie was ok but I agree laughter can be dangerous.

Take care,

Morten

Mary Bard, Betty MacDonald's chickens

I'm Anita,

Good morning, Betty MacDonald Fan Club Fans,

I'm working on a story about Owning Chickens for Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter.
You will learn many thoughts for example of Betty MacDonald, Robert Eugene Heskett, Donald Chauncey MacDonald, Darsie Bard, Sydney Bard, Gammy, Mary Bard Jensen, Clyde Reynolds Jensen, Cleve Bard, Mary Alice Bard, Dorothea Goldsmith whose name in Betty MacDonald's books is Dede of course, Madge Baldwin, Don Woodfin, Mike Gordon, Ma and Pa Kettle, Nancy and Plum, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and many other family members and friends.

Sandrine darling, you are right. A serious warning! Don't ever listen to Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald Interviews in public places. I did it in a bus. I felt off my sit because I couldn't stop laughing about this crazy couple. Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett share their witty experiences with family and friends but also about owning chickens. Terribly funny!

This new Betty MacDonald CD and DVD influenced me to write a Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter story about owning chickens. I agree with humor champion Alison Bard Burnett. She got it! When you feel blue you only have to listen to Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett. Don't do it in a childish way like I did. By the way I did hurt myself.

I don't agree with Geoff Taylor's description about owning chickens.

Hens make a soothing clucking noise?

Oh No!!!! They don't. I know it from practice.
They wake you up early in the morning. I'm a longsleeper. I hate their noise. It's just awful.

Everyone should have a dozen chickens?.

Everyone? What is the reason why? I never liked chickens.

They’re far more soothing to the jangled city psyche than colorful fish swimming in a tank on a bookshelf?

Oh dear, Geoff, stop it, please! This is kind of a very romantic feeling. I'm sure Betty MacDonald would hate it and I agree. A back to the country feeling.

I'm a city girl and love my wonderful cat named Eartha Kit, who is as beautiful as Eartha, the singer. Wild Eartha is a city girl too and of course we celebrated World Cat Day together.

Chickens give you eggs on your breakfast plate that are better and fresher than Bill Gates eats, unless he also keeps chickens?

Eartha and I don't need eggs, in fact we don't like them. I can't imagine Bill Gates keeps chickens. If so I'd be very disappointed because I adore his intelligence.
So you know how I feel about Geoff Taylor's thoughts.

I'd like to know what our very bright and charming Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Members, authors and artists Monica Sone, Darsie Beck and Gwen Grant think about owning chickens. I'm really very curious. I bet they don't like them.

Chickens remain what they are. Stupid!
The world don't need their stupidity. We need more intelligence, tolerance and understanding. That's what we need.

Eartha looks at me and seems to say: Anita, dull chick you sound like a prayer today. You still have to learn a lot!
Isn't Eartha very wise? She is so much more intelligent than I am.

Have a nice day, dear Betty MacDonald Fan Club Fans!

Anita
